Wikipedia Founder Caught-Up in Messy Online Breakup With Ex-Fox News Pundit
March 5th, 2008 by admin
The online encyclopedia Wikipedia was born of a utopian vision: “Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.”
But Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has learned that the Internet is also great for airing dirty laundry. An angry ex-paramour of his is using it to exact payback by posting invective, sharing salacious chat and using eBay to auction off garments that she said he left behind.
The tawdry tale of Wales and former Fox News pundit Rachel Marsden might be summed up by text messagers as TMI – or “too much information.” It has been served up with relish on Valleywag and other Internet sites in recent days.
Fallout includes blog postings from ex-Wikimedia Foundation employee Danny Wool and others that raise allegations, which Wales disputes, that he has improperly used his expense account and influence within Wikipedia.
WTF: High-Flow Experiment Uses Jet Tubes to Flush Grand Canyon
March 5th, 2008 by adminFederal agencies are gearing up to release a manmade flood aimed at refreshing the ecosystem of the Grand Canyon.
A three-day torrent of water will be released from Glen Canyon Dam on the Arizona-Utah state line beginning Wednesday morning.
The Colorado River in the Grand Canyon downstream from the dam used to be warm and muddy. But the dam now traps silt and the river runs cold and clear through the canyon. The shift has helped speed the extinction of four fish species.
The agencies including the Interior Department and Park Service hope the flooding will redistribute sediment in the canyon.

US Soldier throws puppy off cliff – Watch more free videos
The U.S. Marines are investigating a video clip in which two of their own appear to throw a helpless puppy off a cliff.
The 17 second clip sparked outrage after it was viewed thousands of times before being yanked by the popular Web site YouTube.
The video shows two Marines, one of them holding a black and white puppy by the scruff of the neck.
Both men are heard saying how cute the puppy is before the soldier holding the dog lifts it above his head and hurls it across the rocky landscape into a small ravine.
Sounds of a puppy yelping in distress can be heard as the camera shows the dog flying through the air.
The Marines responded on Monday, saying the men in the clip appear to be based in Kaneohe, Hawaii.
Officials said they believe the Marine in the video is a lance corporal who returned to Hawaii in October from Iraq.
“This is a shocking and deplorable video that contrary to the high standards we set for every Marine. We will investigate this and take appropriate action,” Maj. Christopher Perrine said.
Those who watched the clip on YouTube were similarly outraged.
YouTube user evergladephish wrote, “He should be court martialed, and then have someone grab him by the scruff of the neck and toss him over a cliff.”
Others questioned whether the clip may have been staged as a sick joke.
“We need to find out who is this person, is this a legitimate video? Was it edited?” Maj. Perrine said.
If the video proves to be authentic, the Marines in the clip could face judicial charges, demotions in rank and pay and even a court-martial. They could also be discharged.
